Time to take out the trash.
You sigh as you walk down your driveway. You sigh all the way to the trash can. But when you lift the lid, your sigh dissipates, and you scream.

The purpose of this writing prompt is very simple. It’s there so you can work on your shocking reveals, and at the same time, learn how make use of them in a way that really engages the reader.
As an example, this prompt would be perfect as a chapter ending – especially in a genre like horror or crime. Chapter endings are all about keeping your reader engaged and having them dive right into the next chapter. It would be tough to put the book down if that was the last thing you read.
This is something we want you to keep in mind when you make use of these prompts. They’re more than just tools to use when you’re sapped of inspiration, they’re tools that can be used to improve your writing as a whole.
