A content edit is exactly what it says on the tin – an edit of your story’s content.
The entire manuscript will be read at least twice and we will construct a report based on the content of it. Our reports are based on a number of fine details that would be a little boring to ramble on about… so let us put it like this: we assess your story, scene-by-scene, and construct a report that is based on the industry standards in specific relation to your niche or genre.
Just think of a content edit as an extra pair of eyes – someone to guide you through the crucial necessities when you find yourself emotionally attached to a certain section, unable to let go. Or so soul-drained you find yourself panting at the keyboard, unable to write a single sentence more.
NOTE: This editing package does not come with a proofread.
Price: £10 per 1,000 words.
In the most basic terms possible, a line edit addresses and critiques the way you use language to get the story out of your mind, and into the mind of you reader. It focuses on the intricacies of each sentence, and delves into what these finer details mean for the most important person: the person reading your book.
Is your writing clear and concise? Does it have a smooth flow and a range of sentence structure? Does it remain consistent in terms of staying true to your narrative voice? Does it make the reader feel as well as observe? Does it create a sense of atmosphere? Does it have that unique pop that all good writing has?
These are the types of things a line edit addresses. The clue is sort of in the name… It’s done on a line-by-line basis, and usually follows your content/developmental edit. If you’re looking to refine the way you write – not just during your current project, but for the rest of your writing career – then a line edit is just what you’re looking for.
Price: £10 per 1,000 words.
This type of editing, though stemming from the same fundamentals, is slightly more in-depth than a simple spelling, punctuation and grammar check. As well as covering those aspects, if you choose a copy editing package I will also look closely at: internal consistencies and plot-holes, any sentences that are redundant, and whether or not your writing maintains consistency in hyphenation, font, and capitalisation usage.
This type of edit is typically done in the latter stages, when the content and writing style have been reworked and strengthened. Think of a copy edit in the same sort of way as you’d think of putting wax on your car. You wouldn’t do it before doing the rest of the cleaning, right?
If you’re looking to put that shiny finishing touch on your manuscript, a copy edit is exactly what you need.
Price: £18 per 1,000 words.
This is a blend of a content edit, a line, and a copy-edit – in that exact order.
A comprehensive edit is a totally in-depth, line-by-line, scene-by-scene editing service covering: character and plot development, showing and telling, structure, plot-holes, pacing, timeline inconsistencies, tense consistency, fact checking, voice – in essence, a full content-edit addresses every possible issue that could exist within a piece of fiction.
This service is split into three stages, during which, your manuscript will get to endure all three of the different types of editing. First, the content is addressed, and is refined to ensure smoothness in specific relation to the genre you write in. Next, your writing style is critiqued in the form of a line edit, and is made crisp and concise in terms of impact on the reader. And last but not least, the finishing touches are applied via the brilliance of a copy edit, in which the writing is scanned one final time to ensure correctness and clarity throughout.
If you’re looking to address every single aspect of your book in order to make it the best book you could possibly write, then this is the package you’ve been waiting for. This is the ultimate. This is what will take your writing to a whole new level.
